5 minutes with...Christians Against Poverty

Winners of the Best Christian Website award, Daniel Furlong and Chris Haldane from Christians Against Poverty share why winning the award has been a great encouragement and the inspiration behind creating the organisation.

What was the inspiration behind Christians Against Poverty?

CAP began in 1996 when our founder John Kirkby, new in his faith, felt compelled to do something for families in financial crisis. John had suffered his own debt problems and had a background in the credit industry and wanted to use his knowledge and experience to help others.

What was your first reaction when you heard you won the award for Best Christian Website?

We have a very dedicated team who are passionate about communicating in a way that means the most to each of our various audiences. It was great to have our work recognised by Premier – and we were really excited to hear CAP’s name read out.

What does winning this award mean to you?

It is lovely for all the Comms team – those who work to find great client stories, those who film them, those who write content and those who design. It’s so encouraging for all of us.

How has winning the category impacted your work?

Things move fast at CAP, and with the Christmas appeal in full flight, we’ve not had much time for it to sink in, really!

What are Christians Against Poverty’s plans for 2017?

CAP’s network of churches is constantly growing as we try to reach those in need in new ways and new areas of the UK.

In the Comms team, we are seeing our own expansion with a new agency called CAP Creative. This will allow us to share our in-house expertise of film and web with other charities and churches. So, if you like what you see, get in touch!

How important is the Premier Digital Conference in today’s modern Christian community?

It’s great to have a forum to encourage creativity, innovation and good communication within the Christian world. We’re passionate about telling good news and it’s inspiring to see others doing the same.

What advice would you give to Christians with a digital project or idea that they want to launch?
