5 minutes with...Kingdom Guide

Founder of events website Kingdom Guide and winner of the People's Choice Award Iyisha Rocke shares how Kingdom Guide was birthed, what winning the award means to her and why there's purpose behind seeing a need and fulfilling it.

What inspired you to create Kingdom Guide?

I’ve always loved attending Christian events, whether it be a concert, seminar, conference or festival, I love being around Christians. But I often found it difficult to find out what events were happening, especially when I was not on social media. I always thought ‘it would be great if there was a single website where you could find out about all Christians events happening’…then one day it just came to me that I should be the one to do just that!

I want Kingdom Guide to be the number one place where people can easily find and promote Christian events they have for free.

What was your first reaction when you heard you won the People’s Choice Award?

Complete shock! I had never expected to win. I only launched the website 6 months ago (just before my 30th birthday) and that in itself was a great achievement. Then to win an award on top of that, within the same year, was amazing!

What does winning this award mean to you?

Winning the award and hearing such amazing feedback from so many people has been so encouraging. It can be hard running a business, especially in the early stages, investing time and money and not always seeing the return. But winning the award has definitely given me the push to go on and continue to make Kingdom Guide bigger and better in the years to come.

How has winning the category impacted your work?

Attending the Premier Digital Awards Ceremony was a great networking opportunity. I met so many Christian leaders, bloggers and entrepreneurs who have already opened doors of opportunity for me. We are all about unity and doing what we can t help each other so I’m excited to see how we can help each other move forward. There has also been increased traffic to the site and lots of interest from media which has been great.

How important is the Premier Digital Conference in today’s modern Christian community?

The world we live in is changing rapidly and digital technology is at the core of the change. It’s so important for people, the Church in particularly, to be aware of this and how it impacts the way we go about our everyday life. Digital technology can be a great tool to reach, inform and connect with people and organisations across the world are using it to advance their business practices. There is great opportunity for the Church to do the same.

What advice would you give to Christians with a digital project or idea that they want to launch?

Growing up my Mum used to always tell me “If you see the need maybe it’s because you’re the one who is meant to do something about it”. Sometimes things may seem so obvious to you but it hasn’t actually even crossed anyone else’s mind- you can be the one to make that idea a reality. Take the risk, connect with the right people and make it happen. If you don’t, one day someone else will…
