Tweeter of the Year award winner Mark Russel is on his 3rd award for this category! He talks about why anything is possible and the effectiveness of using Twitter to preach the Gospel.
What inspired you to create a Twitter profile?
I was an early adopter of twitter, and have had a profile for 7 years. I saw Twitter as an amazing way to communicate to a wide audience, and today 7 years later over 60,000 people see my tweets on an average week.
What was your first reaction when you heard you won the award for Tweeter of the Year?
Well this is the 3rd time I have won the award! So I was really surprised to have won again. I feel really honoured that Premier recognise that Twitter is a really significant place to communicate the gospel, and that some of us work hard to represent the gospel there.
What does winning this award mean to you?
This is a real encouragement to keep going. I have 8800 followers, and I still thank each new follower personally and try to reply to every interaction. This award blesses me as it shows that Premier recognise the importance of this ministry.
How has winning the category impacted your work?
It just inspires me to keep doing what I do, honouring God and honouring people in twittersphere
What are your creative plans for 2017?
I haven’t had time to think about that yet!
How important is the Premier Digital Conference in today’s modern Christian community?
Really important, to network and inspire people to grasp the amazing and unparalleled opportunities the digital world offer us to communicate Christ
What advice would you give to Christians with a digital project or idea that they want to launch?
Do it! Digital is a big space where anything is possible. The Wesleys moved the gospel from the church to the fields and coal mines, Premier moved the gospel to the airwaves, and digital is the next frontier. We need more and more Christians confident to witness about God in this.
